Good Unit, But Needs More Polish
"Overall, this is a good head unit and a worthwhile upgrade for the Mitsubishi Lancer. Once installed, it looks great and performs well, but there are a few areas where the product and installation experience could be improved. The installation information is quite sparse, particularly for the older 2008 Lancer. While some documentation is available, it feels outdated and lacks the detail needed for a smooth installation. A proper installation video with clear commentary would be a much better resource, especially for fitting the reversing camera, GPS antenna, Wi-Fi antenna, and routing the various cables. This would remove a lot of the guesswork for installers. The ground (earth) wire is too short. On my 2008 Lancer with a standard factory setup, I had to awkwardly reach behind the dash to secure it to a suitable grounding point due to the limited cable length. The wire quality could be improved. Some of the wiring feels quite fragile during installation, which raises some concerns about long-term durability. The supplied camera mounting bracket is too weak. Mine broke while making normal adjustments to the camera position during installation. I wasn't overtightening or forcing it, just adjusting the angle and height as intended. Because the supplied camera bracket broke, I had to fabricate a stronger custom bracket to complete the installation. One issue that initially caused some frustration was that the software on the unit was out of date. As supplied, Android Auto/ZLink would not work correctly. After connecting the unit to my home Wi-Fi and updating the installed apps, everything worked perfectly. It would be helpful if the installation guide recommended connecting the unit to Wi-Fi and running all available updates immediately after installation, as this could save users a lot of troubleshooting time. That said, I do want to give credit where it's due. EXTNIX were excellent to deal with throughout purchasing the product and questions. The staff were responsive, helpful, and easy to communicate with whenever I had questions. Despite the issues above, the overall customer service experience was very positive, and if I need another unit like this in the future, EXTNIX will likely be my first choice. With better installation resources, a longer ground wire, improved wiring quality, a stronger camera bracket, and updated software out of the box, this would easily be a 5-star product. As it stands, it's a solid unit that just needs a little more polish and attention to detail."
