Phase 1 — Factory Radio & Trip Computer Removal

1

Remove the Factory AC Control Unit

The factory AC control unit is held in place by 4 clips. Use a trim tool or flat-head screwdriver to release each clip. Once free, disconnect the power connector from the back of the unit.

2

Locate the 10mm Mounting Nuts

With the AC unit removed, locate the 10mm nuts securing the trip computer (GXL) or factory radio (GX). On GX models, the frame may pull out freely — the radio will be held by 4 nuts.

3

Disconnect & Label the Wiring Harness

Disconnect all harnesses and label each connector before removing to avoid confusion on reassembly.

White cable → Trip Computer
💡 Use masking tape and a marker to label each connector as you go.

4

Remove the Bottom Radio — GXL Only

Take out the left and right silver trim panels (clip-held). Remove the 4WD selector switch (clip-held). Then undo the 4 x 10mm nuts on the right side, left, and bottom to release the factory radio.

Remove the 4 x 10mm Nuts & Extract Factory Radio

Undo the remaining mounting nuts — right side first, then left and bottom. Slide the factory radio out and disconnect all cables from the rear. Set aside safely.

Phase 2 — Dismantling & Reinstalling the Trip Computer

6

Separate the Trip Computer Screen from the Frame

Remove the 4 screws and 2 sockets holding the trip computer screen to its frame. Handle the ribbon cable carefully to avoid damage.

7

Open the PCB Cover & Remove PCB and Buttons

Remove the 4 screws from the PCB cover. Extract the PCB — it will be installed in the new Extnix frame. Then remove the buttons beneath the PCB and keep everything together.

Remove Side Brackets & Cable Mounting Points

Take off the side brackets from the trip computer screen and release the existing cable mounting points. These are replaced by the new hardware included in your Extnix kit.

Install New Mounting Points & Reassemble into New Frame

Fit the new mounting points from the Extnix kit onto the screen. Then reinstall the buttons, PCB, and screen into the new Extnix frame. Adjust until everything aligns correctly.

Reconnect Wiring & Factory Camera Retention Kit

Reconnect the original trip computer wiring and the factory camera retention kit:

One end → connects directly to the Trip Computer
Other end → connects to wiring from the screen

Phase 3 — Air Vents, Hazard Switch & Final Fit

11

Remove & Refit the Air Vents

The air vents are held by push clips: 4 on top, 2 in the middle, 1 on each side, and 4 at the bottom. Release with a flat-head screwdriver, then slide vents into the new frame. Secure using the yellow/white clips from the factory fascia.

💡 The middle clips are the hardest to release — work slowly from multiple angles to avoid breaking them.

12

Relocate the Hazard Light Switch

Remove the hazard switch from the silver surround (clip-held). Install it upside down on the left side of the new frame. Slight trimming of the new frame may be required (as marked) for the switch to operate freely.

Extend Hazard Wiring & Final Clip-In

Remove the extra tape at the cable end to release more length for the hazard wiring. If it still won't reach, use a 15cm wiring extension. Then clip everything into the new Extnix fascia for a perfect OEM-style fit.

✅ Power up, connect your phone via Wireless CarPlay, and test the reverse camera, trip computer, and hazard switch before closing up the dash.

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

Will this work in both GX and GXL Prado 150 variants?

Yes. The Extnix Wireless CarPlay head unit is compatible with both GX and GXL (2009–2013). GXL owners also need to transfer the trip computer into the new frame; GX owners skip this step.

Does the factory reverse camera still work after installation?

Yes. The factory camera retention kit keeps your OEM reverse camera fully operational through the new head unit. Connect the Male White RCA to the camera output and the blue terminal cables to the reverse trigger.

Is the hazard switch still functional after being repositioned?

Yes, it remains fully functional. It is installed upside down on the left side of the new frame. Minor trimming may be needed to allow free switch movement.

What if the hazard wiring won't reach?

Remove the extra tape at the cable end to release additional length. If it still won't reach, a 15cm wiring extension — available from most auto electrical suppliers — will be required.
