Overview — Before & After
Factory Unit & Finished Result
The 2018–2023 Prado features a factory 8" touchscreen with a separate physical climate control panel below. The Extnix kit replaces both with a large CarPlay screen and a new digital HVAC display module — a clean, modern upgrade. Click any photo to enlarge.

Phase 1 — Trim & Climate Control Removal
Remove the Bottom Left & Right Trim Panels
Using a panel removal trim tool, carefully pry out the bottom left and right trim panels on either side of the centre console. Work slowly around the edges to release the clips without cracking the trim.

Remove the Factory Climate Control Unit
The factory HVAC/climate control unit is held in place by clips. Use a trim tool to release each clip around the perimeter. Once free, carefully pull the unit out and disconnect the connector from the back.

Phase 2 — Factory Head Unit Removal
Remove the 4 x 10mm Bolts from the Factory Head Unit
With the climate control unit removed, you can now access the 4 x 10mm bolts securing the factory head unit. Two bolts are visible in the centre, and one on each side. Remove all four.

Pull Head Unit Out & Remove Factory Harnesses
Slide the factory head unit out from the dash. Disconnect all factory harnesses from the rear of the unit. Note the position of each connector — there are multiple plugs including the main harness, antenna, and accessory connectors.

Remove Air Vents from the Factory Frame
The air vents transfer from the factory frame to the new Extnix frame. Release the bottom clips first, then the upper clips. The red-circled locations in the photos show exactly where each clip is located.

Phase 3 — Wiring Connections
Connect the Primary Power Harness
Connect the primary wiring harness to the vehicle's main power supply connectors. The harness plugs directly into the factory connectors — no cutting or splicing required. Ensure each plug is fully seated and clicks into place.

Connect the Secondary Harness
Connect the secondary wiring harness which handles audio output, auxiliary connections, and additional signal wires. Match each connector by shape and size — they are keyed so they only connect in the correct orientation.

Connect Steering Wheel Controls, Amp & Reverse Trigger
Connect the harness for steering wheel audio controls, the amplifier output, and the reverse trigger signal. These are clearly labelled on the harness as shown in the photo.
Amp → Amplifier remote turn-on
Reverse Trigger → Activates reverse camera

Connect the Factory Reverse Camera
Plug in the factory reverse camera connector to the camera input on the harness. This retains your OEM reverse camera — no aftermarket camera required. The camera will automatically activate when reverse gear is engaged.

Phase 4 — Microphone & Antenna
Install the External Microphone
Route and mount the external microphone under the dash near the A-pillar or steering column area. The mic clips onto a suitable mounting point and should face toward the driver for optimal voice pickup during calls and voice commands.

Connect the Radio Antenna
Connect the factory radio antenna to the antenna input on the new head unit. This ensures full AM/FM reception is retained. The antenna connector is a standard ISO or fakra plug depending on your variant.

Phase 5 — Final Installation
Install the New CarPlay Head Unit & Climate Control Module
Slide the new Extnix head unit into position, ensuring all wiring is tucked neatly behind. Connect all harnesses to the rear of the unit, then push it firmly into the dash frame until it clips in.
The new digital climate control display module simply clips onto the factory HVAC unit connector — it's a direct clip-on/clip-off replacement, no wiring changes needed. Once clipped in, push it into the slot below the head unit.

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ
Does this fit both GX and GXL Prado 150 (2018–2023)?
Yes. The Extnix unit is compatible with both GX and GXL variants of the 2018–2023 Toyota LandCruiser Prado 150 Series facelift.
Does the factory reverse camera still work?
Yes. The factory reverse camera is fully retained via the harness connection. No aftermarket camera is needed — it activates automatically when reverse gear is selected.
What happens to the climate control / HVAC?
The factory physical HVAC controls are replaced by the new Extnix digital climate control display module, which is included in the kit. It clips directly onto the factory connector — no wiring changes required — and displays all AC functions on a digital screen.
Does steering wheel control still work?
Yes. Steering wheel audio controls (volume, track, phone) are retained through the steering wheel control interface connection in the wiring harness.
Is this the same unit as the 2009–2013 Prado?
No — this is a different, dedicated unit designed specifically for the 2018–2023 facelift Prado. The two vehicles have completely different dash layouts and wiring. If you have a 2009–2013 model, see our separate install guide.
